The Writing Coach
A place for students to bring a rough draft and get real, TEA-rubric-based help: the coach reads their draft against the actual STAAR scoring language and asks the questions a writing teacher would, one at a time. It never writes a word for them.
What it will look like
A preview of the concept. The composer unlocks when the Coach goes live.
C
Organization · Score point 2 languageYour idea sentence answers the prompt. Which sentence in this paragraph connects the trophy back to your controlling idea? Point to it.
D
Development · EvidenceYou describe the trophy, but the rubric asks for specific text evidence. Which exact words from paragraph 2 prove "the team still loves it"?
Feedback anchors to the verbatim TEA rubric, never a generic checklist.
How it will work
Students type or paste a rough draft; the Coach reads it against the TEA STAAR Writing Rubric score-point language for their grade band.
Feedback comes as questions and nudges, organization first, then development, then conventions; the thinking stays the student’s.
Every nudge lands in your coaching log, so you see exactly which students needed which kind of help.
You control when it is available: open practice, assignment-only, or off.
Speaks your acronym. The Coach will label steps with the writing structure you set in Settings, so what students hear here matches what you teach in class. Your current pick: ACE.
