WRITE it!

the essay that talks back

Most writing tools help during the draft. But zeros happen because students didn’t understand what they read, or what the prompt was asking. WRITE it! solves that.

One in three Texas ECRs scored a zero.

These are the state averages for Extended Constructed Responses that earned a 0, across grades 3 through English II, over the past four STAAR cycles. A zero is not a weak essay. It means the response earned no credit at all.

The ECR is the heaviest single piece of the reading test, and it is where students lose the most ground. Most zeros are not drafting problems. They start earlier, the moment a student misreads the passage or misreads what the prompt is really asking.

That is the gap WRITE it! is built to close, with a coach at every step of the process, before a single point is lost.

The Coach

The talks-back promise made real. Feedback that quotes what’s working and asks one question to push the student forward, anchored to the TEA rubric, never writes for the student.

Read to Write

Set a focused reading goal first, then coach purposeful highlighting and evidence collection tied to the prompt that comes next.

Prompt Analysis

Box the prompt, name the genre, define keywords, turn it into a question, and verify every keyword shows up in the thesis.

Writing Conferences

Coached 1:1 check-ins built into every phase: the same questions you’d ask in a real writing conference, asked at the right moment for every student.

Revising

The save-the-essay check. How on-prompt are you? Two-color highlighting catches drift before submit.

Exemplars, Puzzles & Games

A growing library of ECR exemplars, scrambled-essay puzzles, and review games at every grade band.

Warm-Ups & Stations

Bell-ringers, exit tickets, station rotations: quick activities to drop into any classroom routine.

Read to WriteLive demo

Read with a purpose.

Before students write, they read "The Firefly Jar" and build a T-chart of what the mason jar means. They tap the sentences that matter and note what each one shows, so their thinking is on the page before the drafting ever starts.

Tap a sentence in the passage to add what it shows to your T-chart.

This is the real tool, embedded right here. Try it for yourself.

Prompt & PlanLive demo

Understand what the prompt is really asking.

Most off-prompt essays start the same way, with a student who never quite understood what the prompt was asking. This seven-step coached process boxes the prompt, names the writing type, defines the keywords, turns the prompt into a question, and checks that every keyword lands in the plan.

Box the prompt to begin, then work through each step with the coach.

Two-Color RevisingLive demo

Two colors. One clear check.

Students highlight the prompt keywords in yellow, then highlight everything the mason jar is shown to mean in purple. Side by side, the two colors reveal whether the response actually connects the object to the meaning the prompt asked for.

Arm the yellow highlighter first, then drag-select the prompt keywords, and switch to purple for the meanings.
